About

A Client-First Approach

The sun never sets on Bird-in-Hand – a phrase often used by company leaders. What it stands for has been at the company core from the start –  the team is always there for clients, period.

When you need to talk turkey (or chicken, beef, cheese or pork), the team at Bird-in-Hand Farms will pick up the phone, respond to email or a text and get you the answers. It also stands for the breadth of relationships that fuels the team’s ability to match each client we serve with the right proteins for their individual needs, right when they need them.

Today, Bird-in-Hands Farms serves a diverse client base of further processors, processors, distributors, pet food makers, grocers, food service companies and exporters across the United States via a team of over 18 experienced protein buyers and sellers at 12 sales offices.

Whether you need a partner to provide peace of mind through reliable deliveries to power your business or a partner to fill in the gaps and get the job done when you need it most, count on Bird-in-Hand Farms. Reach out to connect with the team to discuss how our client-centered approach can add value to your company’s protein supply chain.

Over 72 Years, 3 Generations, 1 Family

What started with the sale of a few chickens from a little white farmhouse in Central Pennsylvania in 1949 has grown into a multi-location poultry and protein trading company that serves clients across the United States and the Caribbean. While we’ve evolved from writing up bills of sale with pencil and paper, typewriters, and faxes to online via mobile and zoom, one thing has remained unchanged – our commitment to deliver for our clients.

Honesty, transparency and keeping promises were at the heart of founder Herman Bloom’s approach to doing business, and these key tenants have remained guideposts for Herman’s son, Fred and his grandson, Ted as they’ve shepherded the company and their clients through the changes of an increasingly global supply chain.

Over the past 72 years, our expansion from brokering turkeys and processing chickens through becoming a pioneer in brand labeling and tray packing, to our expansion to 12 office locations offering a full range of proteins has been fueled by client-focused growth. Today, our deeply rooted relationships with hundreds of supplier partners across the U.S. coupled with the team’s combined experience (collectively over 400 years) representing poultry and protein buyers powers the Bird-in-Hand Farms approach to delivering a better experience for the clients.
